Blue Crush

Baratta outfitted an inviting covered porch overlooking pristine turquoise seas off the Florida coast simply, with wicker furniture from the Oscar de la Renta collection, geometric pillows, and cushions in his favorite beachy hue: “I love the use of a pale, sky blue in a home on the coast,” he says. “It really helps to make a room feel happy.”

Pattern Play

What’s Baratta’s expert secret to mixing motifs, like the checkered fireplace surround, plaid upholstery, and nautical-themed rug shown here? “It’s easy to mix patterns when you first pull together the palette itself,” he says. “We settle on the color palette before we even begin to work on a project.”

Artistic Side

No stranger to bold color, Baratta proves in a Captiva Island, Florida, home that great artwork doesn’t have to come in a frame. When a room is a unique shape, such as the rounded entryway, an accent wall adorned in a vibrant, tropical mural is all the eye candy needed. The surrounding palette is kept controlled and the décor simple, in order to not compete.

Sail Away

When displaying collectibles, Baratta isn’t afraid to think outside the box (or, in this case, off the shelf). Here, he uses the client’s existing collection of model sailboats as fun wall art. To complement the display, he chose pictorial fabrics and a gingham-wallpapered ceiling. “When nautical décor is appropriate, I think you can never have too much,” he says.
