A 1960s kit house on a Florida island had lost its luster, but a budget-savvy redo brought out the best of its bungalow design.

A top priority was safeguarding the 1965 house, a 680-square-foot tent-shaped plywood structure on the Gulf of Mexico. Fresh coats of paint and stain helped stabilize and protect the wood exterior. The cement board siding and a peeling deck were coated with solid acrylic stain.
