This beachy Jacksonville, Florida home, designed by Andrew Howard, perfectly blends drama with durability, using fun colors, punchy prints and kid-proof materials. In the breakfast room, wavy-striped fabric on the chairs and banquette pillows is paired with subtler pieces, like a traditional oak table and natural window shades. The party-ready kitchen makes it easy to host a crowd. Guests can congregate at the oversize island, and large antique mirrored cabinets keep pans and appliances stylishly hidden for a clutter-free space. The designer keeps the living room’s look airy and light by painting the walls pale blue and the backs of the built-in bookcases a soft green. These breezy hues let the white accents pop, while the weathered boards on the ceiling warm up the space. Stairways are often overlooked, but this one has greater architectural interest with the addition of textured paneling and a gallery wall of framed prints leading up the steps. A small round table, simply styled, offers a resting place for car keys and mail. In the guest room, pink is outlines the windowsill and other decorative elements that pop throughout the room. The seating arrangement in the master bedroom creates an ideal private sanctuary. Howard pairs the linen sofa and chairs with a white coffee table to blend with the room’s (Photo 8) muted color scheme. With a creative eye and keen sense of style, designer Andrew Howard shows how a home by the sea can be beautiful and family-friendly.
