A design celebrity combines refined and rustic in this lakeside retreat that returns him to his roots.
Filicia’s own vacation home on New York’s Lake Skaneateles is a showcase of his couture version of rustic Americana. "The house goes from black tie to bathing suit," he says. "That's indicative of my personality."
The boathouse at Filicia’s upstate New York lake house—where much of his summer afternoons are spent—is blissfully light and airy, thanks to French doors that open up on two sides and white-painted wood panels that enhance the feel.
Filicia, an avid boater, took the nautical notes up a notch in the master bathroom of his lake house, where the white-painted planks that clad the home were turned horizontal, he says, to resemble the planks of a ship’s hull. Mirrors framed in rope, cabinets resembling beadboard, and overhead pendants reminiscent of ship lighting complete the look.
Filicia's eclectic style combines elements of mountain chic and coastal cool in the boathouse, with its black-and-white animal sketches, woven swing seat, and decorative anchor.
The natural entertainer in Filicia makes sure to create cozy, well-designed spots for visitors, too. This warm and inviting
guest bedroom features upholstered walls, an oversized canopy bed, and fun, nautical touches.
