Smart Storage

Open shelving makes grabbing the perfect bowl, plate, or coffee mug easy. The few upper cabinets we did install have screens on the front panels. "It's like an old pie safe," Tracey says. "It makes the house feel older, but it's clean and simple." To add more storage, Tracey opted for a walk-in pantry, compete with a butcher-block counter.

To keep the space light and bright, Tracey chose a sea-blue color with an antique rub for the island, topped with a white quartz counter. Modern, stainless steel appliances balance the kitchen's laid-back, lived-in feel.

100 Comfy Cottage Rooms

Develop your coastal cottage’s style by following these simple tricks.

Lacy curtains, fresh florals, and plenty of monogrammed pillows are just a few of the feminine touches that give this room its calming and sweet mood. Pieces scored at thrift stores and flea markets were refreshed with paint, then artfully applied to achieve the shabby-chic distressed look.
