For Long Walks

Hunting Island State Park, South Carolina

The semitropical barrier island is bursting with 5,000 acres of pristine beaches, hiking trails, and maritime forests ideal for exploring with your pet. Camp with leashed pups on designated park grounds, or stay at the Days Inn Beaufort/Parris Island ($15 fee per pet per night). Park entrance costs $5 for adults and $3.25 for kids.

Get there: From I-95, take Highway 21 east toward Beaufort. Drive 42 miles. Highway 21 ends at the park.
