The colors of this vibrant wedding in Tulum, Mexico, all started with a single piece of red coral. Designers Regina Crosby-Atkins and Krista Jon of Crosby + Jon Design found the coral while working in Tulum, on the Caribbean side of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, and used it as inspiration for Bhaji Illuminati and Chris Tourtellotte's April 2016 destination wedding in that same romantic locale.
“The bride wanted a lot of color and she was really brave in letting us go wild with it,” Crosby-Atkins said. Look to the bride’s bouquet and the bridesmaids’ dresses for the full color scheme: a warm palette of red, orange, mustard yellow, and gold. Crosby-Atkins and Jon let the ocean play its own part in the color scheme, and its cool tones offered a vivid contrast to the wedding’s rosy colors.
Bhaji and Chris’s wedding took place at the Viento De Mar hotel, a beachfront boutique hotel in Tulum that houses guests in all-white bungalows. The ceremony was on the beach, where guests sat on cushioned benches, bistro chairs, and linen sofas from Archive Rentals - Mexico. Guests gathered for the reception in the hotel’s white open-air dining room, where colorful floral centerpieces in the event's warm colors took center stage as the brightest things in the room—except the bride, of course—and gold-rimmed glasses and white china (also from Archive Rentals - Mexico) helped establish the overall modern-vintage vibe. Tulum's spare aesthetic had its own role in the wedding, too, as the designers mimicked its laidback vibes in the reception's simple, uncluttered décor.
“Our goal is to create beach weddings that are elegant, unique, and personal,” Jon said of Bhaji and Chris’s waterfront event. It looks like they did just that—scroll down to see more images by Brian Leahy Photography from this Tulum destination wedding.
