"I love spending time at the beach with my family, and it makes me happy to design spaces where clients can do the same with theirs."
—Rachel Reider

What is your can't-live-without item for a seaside house?
RR: A beautiful chaise longue. There is nothing like curling up with a good book and a glass of wine at the end of a long beach day!

What's your top insider source for coastal light fixtures and lamps?
RR: I'm really into the Dunes and Duchess lighting line. Their pieces are a great combo of old and new with strong nautical undertones, but they're not overly themed. You can customize your lacquer color, and their burlap shades set the perfect tone.

What are three go-to patterns to mix?
RR: I adore geometrics. The best way to balance them is to add a small-scale organic print, such as a botanical, and a crisp stripe.

Favorite type of fabric to use on the coast?
RR: Definitely linen—it adds wonderful texture and casualness, especially on windows.

The most overlooked spot in a beach house that shouldn't be is ...
RR: A great outdoor shower!
