Gastronomy is a virtual sport in the City by the Bay, and the Presidio is no exception.

La Terrasse
A casual-but-elegant French brasserie serving classics, such as moules frites, with a California twist. The open kitchen and wood-fire oven create a cozy ambience inside, but when the fog lifts, the outdoor terrace is the only way to go; 415/922-3463 or laterrassepresidio.com.

Presidio Social Club
At this inviting restaurant, “eating, drinking, and being merry is mandatory.” Retro favorites, from chicken-fried steak and smashed peas to frozen malted-milk parfaits, bring diners back to the good old days. Plus, the bar stirs (or shakes) some of the best old-fashioned cocktails in town; 415/885-1888 or presidiosocialclub.com.

The Warming Hut
A popular Crissy Field hangout, the café offers local specialties inspired by Berkeley food guru Alice Waters’ menu, including sandwiches, homemade soups, and buttery baked goods. The bookstore sells eco-friendly and organic gifts, including honey made from the Presidio’s own bees; 415/561-3040 or parksconservancy.org.
