9 Beaches, Bermuda

Bermuda is usually formal, but there’s no need for evening dress at this casual out-post. Six of the 84 rooms are over-the-water cabanas (as shown) that include a window in the floor so you can peer down at fish.

Eco cred: Ocean breezes make using air-conditioning unnecessary, so your carbon footprint practically disappears.

Insider’s tip: Hi Tide, the resort’s main restaurant, turns out some of the best meals on the island. Try the blackened rockfish with grilled shrimp and dill sauce.

Cost: Rooms from $280 per night (over-water cabanas from $490). A special this year offers the sixth night for $9 in honor of the resort’s ninth anniversary; 866/841-9009 or 9beaches.com.
