There's never been a dessert more coastal.

By Caroline Rogers

There are plenty of ways to describe our favorite Foolproof Key Lime Pie. The taste? It’s full of flavor—sweet, with the zing of fresh lime. The recipe? It’s simple, impossible to mess up. The texture? Creamy and light. It’s a true taste of the Florida Keys—and who doesn’t want to be transported to the Keys every once and a while? Ok, it won’t pack your bags and fly you there (after all, there’s only so much a slice of pie can do), but it will conjure the sensation of a coastal breeze, an afternoon spent in the shade of a gently waving palm. It’s transportation via tastebuds, and that’s why we’re making this pie recipe all year long.

There are plenty of good Key lime pie recipes out there, but this one is great. It’s the one we’re always sharing with friends and making in our own kitchens. Why this recipe? We’ll break it down for you:

Key Lime Pie Ingredients

Admittedly, this is no 5-ingredient pie. However, the ingredients list for this recipe isn’t overwhelming either. Most of the ingredients you’ll already have on hand in the refrigerator or the pantry. The others are easily acquired at your local market or grocery store. Graham crackers, brown sugar, eggs, Key limes…the ingredients are all par for the baking course, but they combine to create a delicious pie that you’ll find yourself dreaming about year-round.

How to Make Key Lime Pie

It all comes down to the preparation, doesn't it? The active time required in this particular recipe is 23 minutes. 23! We all have 23 minutes to spare when there’s Key lime pie involved. The total time until pie takeoff is 3 hours, meaning that after you combine, mix, drizzle, toss, pour, and whisk the ingredients together (all of which are verbs used in the method of this recipe), you’ll have some inactive time (reading and TV watching, anyone?) while your pie sets in the refrigerator. Bake the crust, pour the filling, refrigerate the pie, and you're on your way to Key lime bliss.

Post-Pie Party Time

Make multiple, garnish with Key lime wedges and smooth whipped cream, and prepare to wow your guests. This is a pie of legendary proportions, the likes of which have a permanent place in our recipe boxes and our dessert-making rotations.
