When you’re a Hollywood A-lister, it’s pretty much de rigueur to have a reputation for collecting enviable real estate. Some prefer modern California manses while others opt for artsy bungalows in the Hamptons. And, occasionally, a rare breed of dreamy home comes along that captures the hearts of more than one iconic celeb.

That’s the case with this East Coast-inspired Los Angeles home, which served as the playground for Broadway starlet Bette Midler in the ‘80s before charming Star Wars creator George Lucas into snatching it up in 2008. According to TopTenRealEstateDeals.com, Midler owned the 1936-built Nantucket-style home from 1983 through 1987, during which time she started her own production company and forayed into comedy film with the flick Down and Out in Beverly Hills. Lucas’ stint in the home lasted through 2010, long after making it big with his mega-popular Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises.

So what is it that makes this home a magnet for celebs? For starters, there’s the party-ready patio area that’s ideal for hosting any-size gathering but serene and private thanks to dense hedge walls and gardens. In LA, where lavish mega-mansions rule, it’s also an understated alternative, with traditional clapboard siding and a modest façade.

But while it may not drip with opulence, the 3,200-square-foot pad is filled with charm and sophistication. From the brick-tiled patio, French doors lead into a spacious, light-filled living room featuring walls of built-in bookshelves. Updated surfaces from the wide plank French oak floors to the kitchen’s stone tiled backsplash and counters lend a feeling of elegance throughout.

Three bedrooms include such swoon-worthy amenities like fireplaces, private second-floor terraces, and en suite baths revamped with luxurious finishes and standalone tubs. White-painted vaulted ceilings and “enough wall space to play host for the largest of collections” are additional star-worthy perks.

Want to follow in the footsteps of a pair of Hollywood greats? The A-list escape in the Hollywood Hills area of LA is currently up for grabs for a grand total of $4.48 million. See more photos of the charming pad below:
