Trend Alert! These Are the Paint Colors You’ll Want in Your Home in 2019
Blueprint by Behr
We’re suckers for all shades of blue paint, naturally. So when Behr released its 2019 Color of the Year pick—a hue that’s “warmer than denim and softer than navy,” they say—we were especially thrilled. “This universally appealing hue provides a steady stream of positivity and is poised to be an instant classic for years to come,” says Erika Woelfel, vice president of color and creative services at Behr. Paired with deeper blues, the color takes on a more dramatic effect; with wispy pastels, like Cotton Grey or Sand Dance, the hue evokes the breezy feeling of being at the beach.

Looking for the perfect punchy yellow to spice up a laundry room or entryway? This cheerful hue—one of 12 trending paint colors chosen by the experts at Valspar—has hints of orange to promote energy and help us “rebalance our responsibilities.” (Some say shades of orange can inspire an increase in productivity.) Paired with bright white and natural textures, the eye-popping shade brings just enough sunshine to enliven a space without overwhelming it.

Night Watch by PPG
There’s no question that nature is restorative—doctors are even prescribing it to patients. But according to some psychologists, even splashing your home in colors that evoke thoughts of nature can do the trick. That’s precisely why global color experts at PPG selected this rich, deep green shade as their 2019 Color of the Year. “The restorative power of nature is important in society now more than ever,” says Dee Schlotter, PPG senior color marketing manager. “[Night Watch] pulls our memories of natural environments to the surface to recreate the calming, invigorating euphoria we feel when in nature.”
Martinique Dawn by Valspar
Last year, Pinterest declared “sage green” as its beloved new neutral—and this soothing shade (named after one of our fave Caribbean islands) seems like the perfect follow-up for 2019. Valspar describes the versatile hue as “an optimistic green,” that “comes to life when surrounded by natural elements such as unfinished wood and simple greenery.” We’d sport the pretty hue in a kitchen or bedroom—but, really, this “new neutral” can work just about anywhere.

Need an excuse to infuse more teal into your life? The color of the year selection by HGTV Home is the perfect versatile shade—able to make a space feel both peaceful and playful, depending on how you use it. Part of their Sophisticated Whimsy palette, the paint brand recommends pairing the blue-green shade with everything from sunny yellows (hello, cheerful entryway) to soothing neutrals like their Dover White. “It can be soft and calming when mixed with natural hues, but energizing and fun when combined with the vivid and bold shades,” says Ashley Banbury, senior color designer at HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams.
Cavern Clay by Sherwin-Williams
A nod to midcentury modern style, this terracotta-inspired hue “embodies renewal, simplicity, and free-spirited bohemian flair,” says Sue Wadden, director of color marketing for Sherwin-Williams. “We believe 2019 will be a renaissance of the 1970s.” In addition to its throwback ties, the shade brings to mind images of sunsets; when paired with a blue like their 2018 Color of the Year, Oceanside, it’d make a bold statement in a dining or living room.
