If you’re still pumped over Pantone’s energetic pick for their 2019 Color of the Year, Living Coral, now is the time to come back down to earth.

‘Tis the season for 2020 color forecasting (yes – already!) and, if there’s one thing we can glean from Behr’s brand-new paint color preview, it’s that the coming year will be filled with hues that remind us of the great outdoors.

The paint giant recently released a trend-driven collection of 15 shades they’re predicting will take over interiors in 2020. Divided into three palettes—dubbed Worldhood, Restore, and Atmospheric—the hues range from balanced neutrals and earthy greens to “lavish oranges.” “The new palette sources inspiration from the desire to engage with the world around us and restore balance in our everyday lives,” says Behr in a press release.

Of the three palettes, Restore delivers perhaps the most literal interpretation of the landscape around us. Soothing shades of green and blue, including a beachy bold teal named Dragonfly, reference the land and sea and “provide restorative qualities to encourage balance,” says Behr. Because of their calming, de-stressing effects, the shades within the Restore palette are dynamite choices in a bedroom or home office.

If you’re looking for something a little punchier, Behr’s Worldhood palette is your best bet. A five-color ensemble starring warm red, yellow, and burnt orange, the palette calls to mind electric sunsets and “natural rugged landscapes.” Try it in a room that sees a lot of guests, as the overall warmth of the shades translates to an inviting environment for hosting.

Of course, any color forecast wouldn’t be complete without some versatile “new neutrals,” and Behr’s Atmospheric palette delivers those in a collection that’s anything but boring. Painter’s White provides the perfect blank canvas for layering deeper, darker grays, while Dusty Lilac brings an unexpected twist and a subtle, softer side to the mix.

Color us inspired. We might only be halfway through 2019, but we’ve got our sights set on a new hue (or two!) for our walls in 2020. Stay tuned for more new-year paint color inspo soon … and until then, let’s all take a moment to remember the dreamy shades that are topping the trend list right now.
