Our first-ever Coastal Living Condo on Florida’s Gulf coast has more-than-enough creative decorating ideas to get your brain thinking about interior design all the time. Here, we break down our five favorite style tips for decorating a truly coastal console—and the products to help you make it happen.

1. Start strong

Much like a home, your console needs a strong foundation. Choose a sturdy console table that can withstand being bumped or jostled, as well as general wear-and-tear. We like to go for units with plenty of shelf space to display our favorite coastal treasures.

2. Go big and blue

Artwork can act as a roadmap to the rest of your console styling. Bright, beachy, and blue artwork lends itself as a jumping off point for choosing accessories that match your console area’s overall look. We love both abstract pieces with bold patterns and bright colors and softer, true-to-life coastal scenes. The beachier, the better!

3. Lighten up

Here, minimalist lamps will not only frame the console, but they’ll also add height! Taller lamps will make your surface more cohesive, tying together the shorter décor with the artwork on the wall. Look for those with metallic bases, like silver or gold, to make your console really pop. For even more coastal vibes, go all out with a coral-shaped lamp.

4. Opt for sneaky storage

Cut down on clutter by hiding it in plain sight! These rattan baskets will cleverly keep dog toys, extra batteries, DVDs, and other knick-knacks on hand without sacrificing style.

5. Embrace uniformity

Variety may be the spice of life, but likeness can pull a look together. “Uniformity, whether in color or material, form or texture, helps turn lots of little objects into a great focal point,” says style director Lindsey Ellis Beatty. And when you’re on the coast, you can’t go wrong with white. Intersperse white décor—think vases or bowls—throughout your console’s shelves for the perfect finishing touch.
