Trend Alert! These Are the Paint Colors You’re Going to See Everywhere in 2020
Chinese Porcelain by PPG
We love when a paint company’s color of the year is a natural in beach houses. That’s the case with PPG’s chosen hue for 2020, Chinese Porcelain. The shade is “a blend of cobalt and moody ink blue that imparts calmness and restful sleep while also offering the spirit of hopefulness,” says PPG. In 2020, PPG predicts a shift toward mood-boosting hues like blue, thanks to our need for simplicity and escapism from technology.
Back to Nature by Behr
An earthy green that’s restorative, revitalizing, and fresh, Back to Nature is Behr’s 2020 color of the year and one of 15 shades in its trend report palette, “inspired by natural elements such as sky, earth, water, and plant life.” Because of its calming, de-stressing effects, Back to Nature is a dynamite choice in a bedroom, home office, or entry.
First Light by Benjamin Moore
The soft, rosy hue, named Benjamin Moore’s 2020 color of the year and one of ten shades in its 2020 color trends palette, is poised to usher in a decade of idealism in design and living spaces, says Andrea Magno, the company’s director of color marketing and development. “First Light 2102-70 reflects a new definition of the home—a shift in mindset from the material to satisfying the core needs in life: community, comfort, security, self-expression, authenticity, and ultimately, optimism.”
Grey Brook by Valspar
Could this pale blue with gray undertones be the sage green of 2020? This pleasing shade, one of Valspar’s 12 paint colors of the year, is reminiscent of stone-washed denim and evokes a “casual lifestyle where perfection isn’t required,” says Sue Kim, Valspar color strategist. Blues elicit clarity and productivity, and Grey Brook can play nicely with other blue tones for a monochromatic effect, Kim says.
Romance by HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams
The 2020 color of the year for HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams (and one of 10 shades in the brands’s new Simply Blissful Color Collection), Romance is a “posh blush pink” that “captures the balance of optimism and calmness we desire at home.” The neutral hue with a hint of apricot pairs well with glam accessories and artwork.
Naval by Sherwin-Williams
A deep navy that “strikes a balance between calm and confident,” Naval is Sherwin-Williams’s color of the year. “People want to feel grounded and inspired to pursue their mental, physical, and emotional well-being,” says Sue Wadden, director of color marketing at Sherwin-Williams. Wadden says Naval can essentially be considered a neutral color and it works especially well when paired with warm natural tones and vibrant greens.
Desert Fortress by Valspar
With beige making a comeback in 2020, Desert Fortress, one of Valspar’s 12 on-trend paint picks for the new year, is right on time. The tone is comforting, uncluttered, and creates a blank canvas that promotes creativity, the company says. Valspar recommends doubling down on Desert Fortress’s calming nature by pairing it with “comfy furnishings layered with plush blankets and pillows.”
Tranquil Dawn by Dulux
Developed to evoke the start of a new decade, Tranquil Dawn, Dulux’s color of the year for 2020, elicits feelings of the morning sky and a fresh start. The soft green-blue-gray hue appears to change based on what it’s paired with, and can work with a variety of other colors, including greens, neutrals, and pinks, according to Dulux.
