HGTV Living Room
"The living room has a strong traditional approach," says designer Linda Woodrum. "It's the heart of the house and wants to be lived in." A pair of relaxed upholstered sofas provides a neutral backdrop for a party of red and brown pillows. For interest, Linda mixed different patterns such as bold stripes, a large floral, and a soft paisley. A club chair recliner completes the main seating area. Underfoot, a striped rug pulls together the room's range of hues and creates a soft island on reclaimed heart-pine floors. Nearby, a stately armoire with pull-out trays, adjustable shelves, and a storage drawer houses electronics.
A fireplace constructed of antique brick anchors the 440-square-foot space. For drama, a red metal star hangs above the mantel. "The star really pulled this room together," says Linda. "It's the icing on the cake."
Above, second-story dormer windows bring in overhead light, enhancing the cozy feel. The living room opens to the upstairs gallery space, where four Doric columns constructed of salvaged heart pine command attention. "They are powerful pieces of the architectural puzzle," Linda says.
