A narrow flight of stairs leads visitors to a private cottage abovethe garage. Accessible via keyless entry, this studio apartmentexplodes with color and funky, modern styling―vivid paintedwicker and wood, playful patterns, and tonal striped walls. In theliving area, a shrimp-color cocktail table unites a small armoire,1950s-style wicker chairs with black-and-white stripes and polkadots, a tufted-back sofa upholstered in pale blue linen, and asleek, white leather armchair. "The chair brings a great, retrofeel to the cottage," Allyson says.

For snoozing, a carved queen bed painted soft green anchors thesleeping corner of the cottage. Nearby, a four-cubby case containscolor-coded baskets for overnight necessities, and a bright pinkwicker table holds an egg-shape lamp for nighttime reading. Thecontemporary-cottage juxtaposition extends to the convenientkitchen, with its eclectic mix of wicker accents, stainlessappliances, farmhouse-style sink, and soapstone countertops. Evensmall appliances, such as a genie-bottle-shape blender, get intothe groove.
