The World’s First Hard Kombucha Bar Brews Booze That’s Better for You
Bonus: It’s in a pretty dreamy setting.
Sure, we all love a good sandy bottomed beach bar where the drinks are oh-so-fruity and the spirits less than top shelf. What we don’t love? Waking up the next morning after downing more than one of those sugar-loaded cocktails.
But a new health-conscious booze out of—where else?—California may be able to banish the morning-after blues (provided, of course, you enjoy in moderation).
Meet JuneShine, an organic hard kombucha that’s about as simple and healthy as alcohol can get. Brewed in San Diego from a short list of simple ingredients like green tea and honey, the sparkling sippers are loaded with antioxidants, probiotics, and vitamins and free from things like added sugars and GMOs.
Each 16-ounce can carries a 6% ABV and comes in a variety of fun flavors, from honey ginger lemon to carrot orange (hard kombucha’s take on the classic mimosa). And while the cans are cute and perfect for toting down to the sand, one must pay a visit to the San Diego tasting room, too—as much for the booze as for the design inspiration.
Created in partnership with designer Katie Gebhardt of Solstice Interiors, the light-filled space is brimming with natural materials like wood and wicker and loads of greenery. Kombucha flows from driftwood taps behind a tiled teal-and-white bar; nearby, a cozy lounge area outfitted with an Anthropologie daybed, poufs and pillows feels more like a chic friend’s Southern California living room.
As if combining wellness and happy hour in a surf-shack setting isn’t reason enough to pay JuneShine a visit soon, consider the fact that the company also donates a portion of proceeds through 1% For The Planet to preserve the stunning natural areas of California.
