Watch This Couple Get Engaged 1,355 Feet Beneath the Ocean’s Surface
Does love get any deeper than this?
The ocean certainly has its way of inspiring romance, from a candlelit dinner on a pristine and private Caribbean beach to champagne beach picnics overlooking a perfect California sunset.
But when Thomas Pruim was conjuring up the ultimate romantic gesture—a proposal—for his marine biologist girlfriend Christina Pilla, simply being by the water wasn’t going to cut it. So, he found a way to get underwater instead.
Pruim applied to a contest hosted by Airbnb and the BBC that granted the couple the once-in-a-lifetime chance to stay aboard the Alucia—an oceanic research and exploration vessel used in the filming of documentary series Blue Planet II. In addition to participating in an active research trip in the Bahamas, the prize also included a ride in a deep-sea submarine through the waters off Cape Eleuthera.
It’s there—1,355 feet below the ocean’s surface—that Pruim popped the question. See how the whole engagement played out:
Cue the champagne (and the tissues)! Congrats to the happy couple and here’s to a lifetime of ocean-loving happiness.
