For this porch-perfect cocktail, start out with chilled lemonade (the fresher, the better). Its sour/sweet duality goes just right with a gose beer. This salted beer (pronounced GO-zuh) is a traditional German-style sour wheat beer brewed with barley, wheat, coriander, and (of course) salt, making it the ultimate summer thirst quencher and an intriguing cocktail mixer. We recommend Westbrook Brewing Co., but check out our other gose recommendations, too.
Once everything is poured into an ice-filled pilsner glass, don’t forget the fresh basil sprigs (we love the chance to use fresh herbs from the garden). Garnish with a fresh lemon slice, then start sipping on your new favorite summer beverage.
1/2 cup chilled lemonade
6 fresh basil leaves
2 lemon slices
½ cup (4 oz.) sour beer (such as Westbrook Brewing Co. Gose)
Basil sprig, for garnish
How to Make It
Combine chilled lemonade, fresh basil leaves, and lemon slices in an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Shake vigorously for 30 seconds; strain into an ice-filled pilsner glass. Top with sour beer and stir gently. Garnish with a lemon slice and a basil sprig.
