The Portuguese have been sipping white port and tonic for generations—join them in this imbibing tradition by adding a splash of Porto's light and fragrant export to this persimmon-garnished cocktail.
Try it with: Fords Gin (United Kingdom). Gin genius Simon Ford (Dorothy Parker) crafts this silky spirit from globe-spanning ingredients as far flung as Romania and Morocco.
½ cup Mediterranean tonic (such as Fever-Tree)
6 tablespoons (3 oz.) gin
1 tablespoons (½ oz.) white port
2 dashes of orange bitters
1 mint sprig
Persimmon slice, for garnish
How to Make It
Stir together Mediterranean tonic (such as Fever-Tree), gin, white port, and orange bitters in a tall glass. Firmly hit 1 mint sprig against the palm of your hand to release oils, and swirl in the drink 10 seconds. Discard mint. Fill glass with ice, and garnish with a persimmon slice.
