4 Ways to Style Your Hair While You Sleep
Add Effortless Texture
All you need is a sock (a clean one, obviously). Wash and towel-dry hair, then pull it into a high ponytail. Tie the sock around the pony, tucking the ends of the sock underneath. Wrap the ponytail around the sock, essentially creating a bun. Hit the sack like this, then take the whole thing down in the morning and you’ll see that your hair has added texture and body, notes Stenson. The only thing you’ll need is a quick spritz of a texturizing spray to add a bit more body and help tamp down any errant frizzies. We like: Saints & Sinners Divine Dry Finish Texture Spray.

Create Waves With Braids
Those cool-girl beachy waves that are all over the runway and red carpet can often take forever to create (not to mention require hot tools and products galore). A much easier technique? Braids at bedtime. Start by working an air-drying cream, like Living Proof Perfect Hair Dry In-Shower Styler, through damp strands. Create three braids wherever you want, the placement can be totally random, says Stenson. Leave the last inch of your ends out of the braid, since these straight tips are what give waves that effortless look. In the a.m., take out the braids, shake at your hair, and—voila!—instant boho texture.

Girls with curls or lots of texture should wash their hair, then apply a curl-defining cream throughout, advises Stenson. One to try: Garnier Curl Sculpt Conditioning Cream Gel. Comb through your hair to loosen and stretch out the curl, then leave it down and let it dry overnight. In the morning, brush through gently for enhanced—yet tamed—texture.

Fake a Blow-Out
Spoiler alert: No blow-dryer needed. Work a volumizing blowout cream (try Matrix Blowout Big Queen) from mid-lengths to ends, then wrap hair in large Velcro rollers. The best part: “You only need to do this on the top of your head to achieve smoothness and volume,” says Stenson. Sleep in the rollers. Take them out, and gently break up with the curls with your fingertips, for a look that says you just stepped out of the salon, not rolled out of bed.
