Tropical Storm Gordon Is Expected To Make Landfall As a Hurricane — Here’s How It’s Affecting Flights
Tropical Storm Gordon is gathering strength and could make landfall as a hurricane on Tuesday evening, affecting travelers flying to and from the Gulf Coast.
If it gathers enough strength, Gordon would be the first Atlantic hurricane to hit the U.S. this year. Surges are expected in coastal Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, according to the National Hurricane Center. These areas could receive more than one foot of rain.
Residents in the area are urged to listen to local officials for advice. Those with plans to travel to and from the coast this week will find change fees waived for many airlines.
American Airlines is waiving change fees for flights to and from Baton Rouge, Panama City, Biloxi, Lafayette, Mobile, New Orleans, Pensacola and Fort Walton Beach for flights booked through September 5. Rebooking must happen before September 9.
