Looking to score a killer house for the least amount of cash? You might want to head north, says a new study.
Anyone who’s ever planned a beach vacation with a group of people—be it a family reunion, girlfriends getaway, or a multi-family escape—knows that the process is anything but a picnic. From cost splitting to meal planning to zeroing in on a destination, the decisions can be daunting.
But a new study recently crunched some numbers to make at least one of those decisions a little simpler. According to real estate site Homes.com, if what your crew craves is a stellar beach house on a budget, you’d be best served by booking a getaway along the Jersey Shore.

To determine the rankings, Homes.com compiled data in beach towns across the U.S., taking into account the average rental’s square footage, number of bedrooms, proximity to the beach, and cost per night. Among the top 15 destinations that give you the most bang for your buck—meaning the largest homes close to the sand for the most reasonable price—seven hailed from New Jersey. (That includes the top four: Brigantine, Ventnor City, Margate City, and Ocean City, in that order.)
While the Jersey Shore isn’t exactly known for its affordability—in a separate Homes.com study analyzing the average cost per night of rentals, Ocean City came in at $311—the pristine stretch of Northeast coastline boasts loads of charming beach houses designed to accommodate more people than your average hotel room. So, when traveling in a group setting—or if you simply want more space!—it makes more sense financially to book a stay here. And besides, is there a more iconic summer vacay than one spent at the Jersey Shore?
