Because dogs. And vacation. And the beach. And love. Here are 8 irresistible dog-lover vacation spots in California, Oregon, and Washington.

Cannon Beach, Oregon

Fetch! Is this the most dog-friendly town in America? It might be. This Oregon charmer has numerous pet-friendly hotels, plus restaurants where dogs are welcome at outdoor tables. Get your pooch all exercised out on Cannon Beach's northern end, across the mouth of Ecola Creek. (Make sure your dog is leashed or under voice control.) Back in town, there's sweet canine shopping to be had at Puppy Love by the Sea.

Stay! The Ocean Lodge takes your four-legged loved ones for $19/night, and will pamper them with a basket stuffed with linens, treats, and chew toys. It even has an outdoor dog shower. For $15/night at the Surfsand Resort, your pooch gets a beach towel, bowl, and basket of treats.

Portland, Oregon

Sip! Lucky Labrador Brewing Co. will set you up with canine-themed craft beers like Winter Wonder Dog and Dog Day IPA, while setting up your pooch with dog treats. Everybody wins.

Stay! At Hotel Monaco in downtown Portland, all pets stay for free, with no restrictions on size or number. But here's the real deal: The Monaco will provide a bed and bowls for your dog, plus options including walking, dog-sitting, and oh yes: psychic readings. Dog services start at $10.

Mendocino, California

Stay! Mendocino's Stanford Inn by the Sea has been officially dog-loving since the 1980s, and your dog is more welcome than ever here. That welcome includes a housemade dog treat tied in a ribbon, water and food dishes, and a stack of plastic bags (they think of everything!). There's a $45 onetime fee for dogs.

San Francisco, California

Sit! Because everyone's cool in California, your canine leads that parade when it pulls up at Le Marcel Specialty Bakery for Dogs in the Marina District. You'll find all-natural delights like Peanut Beastro Biscotti, not to mention a charming patio for posting up.

Carmel-by-the-Sea, California

Stay! Co-owned by animal activist Doris Day, the Cypress Inn is the ultimate dog-friendly hotel. Don't miss Yappy Hour at the hotel's Terry’s Lounge on weekday afternoons. Dog services start at $30.

Fetch! Carmel Beach allows off-leash adventure. Then there's shopping at Diggidy Dog. Finally, the Fountain of Woof is a dogs-only watering spot in Carmel Plaza.

Huntington Beach, California

Catch (A Wave)! Any town that hosts a dog surfing competition is a great dog vacation town in our book. Plan your trip around the annual September Surf City Surf Dog Contest.

Coronado Island, California

Stay! Not only is the Loews Coronado Bay Resort a dog-loving stay (look for pet-friendly packages when you book online), but the resort also hosts the Loew's Surf Dog Competition every June. Rad.

Orcas Island, Washington

Fetch! Head to Eastsound's off-leash dog park for crazy play, and then pop on the leash for a hike in Turtleback Mountain Preserve, shown above.

Stay! West Beach Resort has cabins on a ½-mile dog- and family-friendly beach.

A huge lick on the face for our good friends at Sunset Magazine for sharing their Western canine wisdom. You're our alpha, Sunset!
