The Huntley Hotel
The Huntley will have you at hello. The lobby's smooth, custom-made wood furnishings and leather-covered benches are topped with fluffy throw pillows made of soft Mongolian lamb wool. Silk wool shag rugs tempt well-traveled feet, while the soothing mix of white-and-cream walls and glowing votive candles fashions a sophisticated, luxurious den created by famed hotel/restaurant designer Thomas Schoos. Inspired by the sea, playful accents around the 209-room hotel inject a hip attitude, starting with the lobby's funky wall of fish—a modern art "aquarium" installation of glittering white piranhas that has become the star of the hotel.
But you don't have to be a star to get into the penthouse here; one of the only rooftop restaurants in Santa Monica, The Penthouse stuns with 360-degree views of the Pacific and crowds of beautiful people meeting for drinks and dinner. Sky blue chairs, diaphanous curtains, and chandeliers add to the atmosphere. Meals might start with gourmet grits and plump rock shrimp, and end with sweet sorbet in a mini cone.
