Every week from Memorial Day through Labor Day, our readers are voting for the best spots of the summer—and this week’s winner for the Best Clam Shack is The Clam Box, in Ipswich, Massachusetts!

For more than 80 years, The Clam Box has been serving up clams, scallops, shrimp, and more with indulgent fries, onion rings, and slaw on the side. Don’t consider this spot diet-friendly: Its menu is delightfully full-fat, full-carb, and full-flavor, the perfect feast for a care-free vacation. Located north of Boston in historic Ipswich, The Clam Box uses hand-selected, whole-belly local clams. Expertly breaded and fried, these fried clams are among the best in the country.

The Clam Box acknowledges that it didn’t invent the fried clam—though it may have perfected it. Housed in a distinctive, box-shaped structure built in 1938, the casual spot offers indoor and outdoor seating (and, often, a line out the door). Don't let that deter you from stopping by, though: This spot is a must-visit for any true clam fan.

Congratulations to last week’s winner for Best Waterfront Rooftop Bar, Bud & Alley’s in Seaside, Florida! Congratulations, Clam Box!
