"Lake Erie's finest fresh yellow perch & walleye," claims a sign at this otherwise modest little place in the Lake Erie Islands summer resort area. We won't disagree. Locals line up out the door for tender, juicy fried perch and walleye, which come with excellent waffle-cut fries. In nice weather, skip the fast food-style booths in favor of the two outdoor patios or an impromptu seat alongside the lake itself, just a Frisbee's throw away. There's a location in Vermilion; 419-732-3382.

Check your diet at the door. Go for the huge fried-fish sandwiches (walleye, perch, or catfish) smothered in tartar sauce. There's no inside seating, but nearby benches and gazebos overlook Sandusky Bay and the Cedar Point amusement park; 419-621-8263, facebook.com/pages/New-Sandusky-Fish-Company

A mix of fresh salads and burgers balances out the crispy walleye and battered perch on the exhaustive menu. A rollicking singles scene buzzes around the bar on the large waterfront outdoor deck, where you can also watch diners arrive by boat; 216-861-6900, shootersflats.com
