Move Over, Yoga Retreats. There's a New Top Active Vacation in Town
Are you on board with this trend?
If 2017 was the year of slowing down, 2018 might be the year of amping things back up—at least in terms of your travel M.O.
That’s according to a new report from Pinterest, which recently found that people seem to be trading in Oms for a slice of adventure, from exploring unexpected cities to partaking in activities that get your heart rate pumping.
Among those is a classic beach activity that’s defined coastlines from Cocoa Beach, Florida, to Santa Cruz, California, for decades. And while the natural inclination, especially while on vacation, may be to enjoy the sport from the comfort of the sand while sun-kissed athletes take part, more people are jumping at the chance to ride the waves.
According to the report, Pinterest saves for pins advertising “surf classes” have skyrocketed 260 percent since last year. In particular, people seem especially excited about hanging ten in exotic locales like Bali. (Though, as we mentioned, there are some pretty sweet spots to catch waves right here in the States, too.)
If you think there’s no way you’d ever be able to stand up on a board, you might surprise yourself. Beginner-friendly beaches are certainly your best bet, and can even be found along coastlines with intimidating breaks right next door (like Santa Cruz). With help from an experienced surf instructor, you too can face the swells like a pro…really!
And if not, perhaps there’s hope for your canine friend.
